Tortoise Or Kusu Island On Singapore

kugu1Kusu Island, which means “Tortoise Island” in Chinese, is also known as Peak Island or Pulau Tembakul in Malay. From 2 tiny outcrops on a reef, the island was enlarged and transformed into an 8.5-hectare island holiday resort. Kusu Island is one of the Southern Island in Singapore, located about 5.6 Kilometres to the South of the main island off the Staits of Singapore. The island has a wonderful background, which gives a mythical touch to the place.
The name ‘Kusu Island’ means ‘Tortoise Island’ and according to the legend the island was formed from a giant tortoise which had transformed it self into a hard rock to save two Malay and Chinese sailors. The island is the best place where you can visit the Taoist temple and the Malay Shrine.
The annual festivals held at Kusu Island make this island more populated by tourists in comparison to other island and neighboring states of Singapore.On the island is the popular Chinese temple - Da Bo Gong (The Merchant God or God of Prosperity). Built in 1923 by a wealthy businessman, the temple houses 2 main deities - the Da Bo Gong and Guan Yin. The former is highly regarded as having the power to confer prosperity, cure diseases, calm the sea and avert danger, while Guan Yin is known as the ‘giver of sons’.

has it that a magical tortoise turned itself into an island to save 2 shipwrecked sailors - a Malay & a Chinese. Each year during the ninth lunar month (falls around Sep to Nov according to the Lunar Calendar), thousands of devotees flock here for their annual Kusu Pilgrimage to pay homage for good health, peace, happiness, good luck and prosperity.

On the island is the popular Chinese temple - Da Bo Gong (The Merchant God or God of Prosperity). Built in 1923 by a wealthy businessman, the temple houses 2 main deities - the Da Bo Gong and Guan Yin. Ontop the rugged hillock stand three Kramats (holy shrines of Malay Saints) to commemorate a pious man (Syed Abdul Rahman), his mother (Grandmother  Ghalib) & sister (Puteri Fatimah) who lived in the 19th century.
Many devotees will climb the 152 steps leading to the Kramats to pray for wealth, good marriage, good health and harmony. The shrines are also popular with childless couples who would pray for children.

1. From Sentosa Ferry Terminal you can take the fery and this fery departure at:

a. 10 am and 1:30 pm on monday and saturday

b. 9 am and 11 noon, 1 pm , 3 pm and 5 pm on sunday and holidays

2. Price of the ticket, the detail are :

a. tickets contradictory SGD 9.00 for adults, children 3 to 12 years SGD 6.00
b. tickets for the ferry to Kusu Island includes entrance ticket to Sentosa
c. ferries depart from Clifford Pier during the annual Kusu pilgrimage season
d. long journey to the ship about 30 minutes

3. Alternatively, rent a boat from Clifford Pier and depart to Kusu Island itself. Can rent a boat in the day-time, and the price can be negotiated with the boat driver
