lets…. Visiting Malta

September 15, 2009

maltaMalta is a small island located in the Mediterranean sea just off the coast of Italy. Malta is an ex-British colony so English is spoken extensively alongside the native language of Malti. So who should visit Malta and why?

Owing to it’s location Malta is hot and dry with very little wildlife to speak of. Only a tiny number of birds and mammals can be found here though there are considerably more insects and reptiles. This in combination with the Maltese passion for hunting the few birds that are present means that Malta is not an ideal location for the animal fanatic.

Sadly Malta also has very few sandy beaches, and the few that are there are typically packed to bursting point making them rather unpleasant. While the water is warm and a stunning blue making for fantastic swimming and snorkeling the beaches lack that welcoming look.

Lastly, summer temperatures mean that even by 9 in the morning the air is baking hot and by lunchtime it can unbearable so while there are plenty of stunning views, this is not the country for long walks unless you relish the chance of heat-stroke.

Where Malta really wins though is in the history department. Strategically located, Malta has a long and fascinating history dating back hundreds, even thousands of years. The island is home to some of the most stunning cities around dripping with breathtaking architecture, cute shops and old cathedrals.

And so it is those that admire history and architecture whom Malta is the perfect vacation destination. Ensure you bring your camera because you will no doubt find yourself filling up your memory card rapidly when in Valetta or any of the other ancient cities of old.
